Project: Crims
Client: Corporació Catalana de Mitjans Audiovisuals
Company: Goroka

Idea/Proposal:

Crims originated from the eponymous program on Catalunya Ràdio, which narrates real crimes in a novelized manner. The idea was to adapt this concept into an audiovisual format, creating a true crime series. Thus, the production of TV3, in collaboration with True Crime Factory and Goroka, was born. Journalist Carles Porta reaches households through the screen to shed light on real cases of the dark chronicles of Catalonia.

Implementation:

Crims is the culmination of meticulous journalistic research, combined with an elegant, respectful, and cinematic visual treatment, including interviews with individuals linked to each case. Impeccable sound design enhances the outcome. The series delves into the darkest aspects of human nature, creating an atmosphere where the viewer, accompanied by Carles Porta’s off-screen narration, experiences emotions akin to actively participating in the investigation throughout the episode.

The project debuted on television in 2020; a year later, a four-episode miniseries on “El crim de la Guàrdia Urbana” was released. The third season featured the case of “La noia de Portbou,” whose identity was successfully clarified thanks to the program team’s efforts.

Results:

The third season achieved record figures, reaching up to a 30.2% audience share and 934,000 cumulative viewers. In 2021, Crims won the Ondas Award for Best Radio Program. In 2022, the series received Zapping Awards for Best Entertainment Program and Best Presenter. That same year, the series premiered on Movistar Plus+. In 2023, “El crim de la Guàrdia Urbana” joined the Netflix catalog.
